1959 Sadler-Meyer Special

S/N SC008, Engine #3756519

The 1959 Sadler-Meyer Special is an extraordinary race car with a storied history, known for its victories and records set at the iconic Giants Despair Hill Climb, one of North America’s earliest and most prestigious motorsport events. This car was engineered and built by Bill Sadler, a multi-talented visionary who designed, constructed, and raced his own creations. Competing against legendary marques such as Scarab, Lister-Corvette, Maserati, Ferrari, and Chaparral, the Sadler-Meyer Special held its own and was remarkably fast.

Powered by a bored-out 339 cubic inch Chevrolet engine, rated at 425 HP, the car boasts four-wheel disc brakes, a Borg Warner T10 four-speed transmission, and Halibrand center-lock alloy wheels. The innovative bodywork opens completely for quick access and maintenance, with the nose folding forward and the tail folding back, making it a highly functional race car.

Today, Nick Price continues to race the Sadler-Meyer Special, competing at Sonoma Raceway and Laguna Seca in Monterey. The car has made appearances in the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion and Jeff O’Neill’s Velocity Invitational, continuing its legacy as a competitive and celebrated race car.
